Box Score (PDF)NEWARK, N.J. - A strong second half surge helped Seton Hall overcome an eight-point halftime deficit to defeat Wichita State, 80-76, in overtime Saturday afternoon at the Prudential Center.
The loss snapped Wichita State's (5-5) three-game winning streak. Seton Hall improved to 9-2 on the season with the win.
Fred VanVleet led three Shockers in double-figures with a game-high 19 points on 6-of-18 shooting, while adding three rebounds and three assists before fouling out in overtime.
Ron Baker scored 16 points and dished a team-high seven assists.
Conner Frankamp added a season-high 13 points on 4-of-8 shooting overall, including 3-of-7 from downtown.
Desi Rodriguez led Seton Hall with 18 points, while Isaiah Whitehead added 17 points, five rebounds, four blocks, two assists and two steals. Angel Delgado collected a double-double with 14 points and 11 rebounds and Khadeen Carrington scored 10 of his 11 points in the first half.
The Shockers shot 51.7 percent from the floor in the first half en route to a 40-32 halftime lead over Seton Hall. WSU knocked down five of its nine three-point attempts in the first half.
VanVleet and Baker each scored 11 first half points to lead Wichita State, while VanVleet also added two boards, two assists and two steals.
Seton Hall's Whitehead led all scorers at the break with 12 points on 4-of-7 shooting. Carrington added 10 points for the Pirates.
Wichita State returns to the friendly confines of Charles Koch Arena on Tuesday, Dec. 22, when the Shockers host the Nevada Wolfpack at 7 p.m. CST on Cox Channel Kansas.
