Press ConferenceWICHITA, Kan. – The Wichita State women's basketball team defeated Central Oklahoma in their first exhibition game of the season, 68-61.
The Shockers were led by freshman
Jyar Francis who finished the game with team-highs in points at 21 and rebounds with six. Sophomore
Diamond Lockhart also contributed 20 points.

Wichita State out-shot Oklahoma Central 47% (22-for-47) to 44% (24-for-54). The Shockers also out-rebounded the Bronchos 33 to 29.
The Bronchos were led by McKenzie Solberg who had 19 points and seven rebounds.
The Shockers jumped out to an early 4-1 lead, but was quickly erased by a layup by Central Oklahoma to tie the game 7-7.
After the Bronchos took a 10-8 lead, a jumper by Wichita State's
Diamond Lockhart tied the game at 10.
The Bronchos then took their largest lead of the game at 19-13, but a three-pointer at the buzzer by
Jyar Francis cut the Bronchos lead to one to end the first quarter.
In the second quarter, the Bronchos and Shockers continued to trade buckets until a layup by
Ellie Lehne gave the Shockers their first lead since 4:02 left in the first quarter.
A layup by the Bronchos tied the game at 33 heading into the half.
Oklahoma Central did not let up to begin the third quarter as the Bronchos took an early 39-35 lead and with 2:46 left to play in the third quarter and had their largest lead of the game at 48-41.
A jump shot by Lockhart and a free throw from
Aundra Stovall cut the Central Oklahoma lead to 51-47 at the end of the third quarter.
With 8:10 left in the fourth quarter, a layup by
Brittany Martin tied the game at 51.
A three-pointer by
Marija Pacar gave the Shockers a 62-61 lead with 3:08 to play in the game.
Another layup by Francis and free throws by
Jaleesa Chapel and
TaQuandra Mike gave the Shockers a 68-61 victory.
The Shockers are in action again at Creighton University on Friday, Nov. 13 at 12:05 p.m.
