After Northern Iowa scored four-straight points, a serving error and attacking error put the score at 21-14 Wichita State. Back-to-back kills by Larson and Raudsepp gave the Shockers the first set, 25-15.

A Reilly ace and Fayad kill gave Wichita State an early 5-1 lead in the second set and forced the Panthers to burn a timeout. Three straight kills, including back-to-back strikes by Raudsepp stretched the Shocker lead to 11-4. Northern Iowa scored three straight points of their own to cut the Wichita State lead to 12-8, but the Shockers fought back with another run, this time four points, to put their lead at 16-8. The home team cruised their way into the locker room with a 25-16 second-set victory.
