LAKE BUENA VISTA, Fla. – A second half charge by No. 20/20 Wichita State that included a 20-4 run wasn't enough to overcome hot shooting Iowa, which jumped to a big lead early on its way to an 84-61 victory, Sunday morning in the AdvoCare Invitational seventh-place game.

Each of the top three scorers for WSU (2-4) came from off the bench, led by Eric Hamilton's 14 points and five rebounds in 17 minutes of action. Shaquille Morris played a career-high 24 minutes and finished with 11 points on 4-of-7 shooting, and Zach Brown contributed 10 points.

Jarrod Uthoff paced Iowa (4-2) with 22 points and seven boards, and Adam Woodbury collected 15 points and seven rebounds of his own. Mike Gesell added 14 points and nine assists.

With All-American point guard Fred VanVleet headlining a trio of injured Shockers, WSU struggled for offense, shooting just 35.6 percent to Iowa's 53.8 percent.

WSU trailed 40-21 at halftime and then surrendered 11-unanswered to open the second half.

Down 31, WSU finally rallied at the 12:37 mark, holding Iowa to just four points over a stretch of eight minutes.

The Shockers' 20-4 spurt, which sliced the Hawkeye lead down to 15, was fueled entirely by scoring from underclassmen, with Eric Hamilton (8 points) leading the charge, alongside Zach Brown (5), Shaquille Morris (5) and Markis McDuffie (2).

WSU's furious comeback closed the gap to 68-53 with 6:53 remaining and brought the contingent of Shocker fans back to life. Ty Taylor II's three-pointer could have sliced the gap to a dozen, but it rimmed off, and Iowa instead reeled off eight-straight to regain control.

Markis McDuffie (nine points) and Bush Wamukota (2) made their first career starts. Nine different Shockers have now started at least once this year.

The WSU bench outscored the starters 41-20 and accounted for 30 of WSU's 40 second-half points.

Iowa keyed on Ron Baker, WSU's leading scorer, holding him to a season-low seven points.

The Shockers return to action Saturday at Saint Louis, with an 8 p.m. CT tip on ESPNU, then return home for action against UNLV and Utah on Dec. 9 and 12.
