Shockers Sweep Evansville, Win MVC

WICHITA, Kan.- The Wichita State volleyball team earned a sweep against Evansville to clinch the program's sixth Missouri Valley Conference championship. The Shockers won by scores of 25-15, 25-19 and 25-4.
 
Abbie Lehman led the way offensively for Wichita State with 11 kills while hitting .643. Emily Hiebert added 34 assists and Dani Mostrom had 12 digs.
 
The Shockers started the match strongly, opening the first set with four straight points, including three kills from Lehman, to force Evansville to take an early timeout. A quick strike from Hiebert put the score at 13-7 Wichita State. Lehman's kill after a Purple Ace dig went back over the net made the score 16-10 and forced the Purple Aces to take another timeout. Later, Shelton served up an ace and a block by Reilly and Larson gave the home team a 23-14 lead. MaryAshton Floyd's kill sealed the 25-15 first set victory for Wichita Sate.
 
A block by Lehman and Dudzinski early in the second set pushed the Shockers to a 3-0 lead and later; a Jody Larson kill put the lead at 7-3 Wichita State. A service ace from Katie Reilly and a Raudsepp kill on the next play completed three-straight points for Wichita State to put its lead at 11-7. Another ace, this time by Heibert, put the home team's advantage at 13-7. Later, another three-point run, including another block by Lehman and Dudzinski, saw the lead balloon to 17-9 and forced Evansville to take a timeout. Hiebert's strike put the Wichita State lead at 21-13 and Reilly's kill won the second set 25-19.
 
A Lehman kill put the score at 5-1 Shockers early in the set. A Reilly kill and Shelton ace continued the Wichita State barrage and stretched the lead to 10-2. The Shockers cruised the rest of the way. Back-to-back kills by Jaclyn Roddy saw the Shockers go up 23-3 and Wichita State went on to win the set 25-4.
 
The Shockers will next be in action at the Missouri Valley Conference Tournament, Nov. 26-28 in Springfield, Mo.
