Shockers Take Down Braves, 3-0



WICHITA, Kan. – The Wichita State volleyball team defeated Bradley 3-0 on Friday night inside Charles Koch Arena. The Shockers won by scores of 25-13, 25-16 and 25-21.
 
Jody Larson led the attack for Wichita State with 13 kills. The junior hit .632 and added seven digs. Emily Heibert had 23 assists and Katie Reilly added 10 kills.
 
The Shockers jumped out to an early 5-2 lead in the first set off a kill by Jody Larson. Later, three consecutive kills stretched the lead to 8-3, but the Braves stayed in the set, pulling within 9-7, before a kill by Jenny Whitledge put Wichita State back up three, 10-7. An ace by Dani Mostrom put the lead at 13-9 Wichita State and later another Shocker ace, this time by Larson, saw the lead push to 16-11. An error by Bradley on the next play forced the Braves to take a timeout. Wichita State cruised the rest of the way to win the set, 25-13.
 
Wichita took another lead to open the second set on three straight Bradley errors forcing them to take a timeout with the Shockers up 6-2. Later in the frame, back-to-back kills from Shimen Fayad gave Wichita State a nine-point advantage, 17-8. The Shockers won the set 25-16 on a kill from Larson.
 
Three straight kills by Wichita State, including back-to-back strikes from Larson saw the Shockers open the third set with a 5-2 advantage. Wichita State went on another point surge to go up 13-7 and force a Bradley timeout. With the Shockers up 18-10 the Braves fought back and eventually cut the Shocker lead to three, 21-18. An ace by Dani Mostrom put the score at 23-18 Wichita State, as the Shockers went on to win the third and final set 25-21.
 
The Shockers are next in action on Sat., Oct. 17 when they host Loyola at 7 p.m. inside Charles Koch Arena.
