WTEN: No. 55 WSU Bumps 54th Ranked Arkansas, 4-3

FAYETTEVILLE, Ark. – The No. 55 Wichita State women's team defeated its first nationally ranked dual opponent of the spring with a 4-3 victory at No. 54 Arkansas, Saturday afternoon at the Billingsley Tennis Center.

The Shockers took two of the three doubles matches to claim an early point, then secured the overall victory by splitting six singles matches.

Julia Schiller and Rebecca Pedrazzi notched wins at No. 1 and 2 singles, and Aleks Trifunovic tacked on another at the No. 6 spot.

Schiller and Gabriella Porubin teamed up to win No. 2 doubles, and Trifunovic joined with Luca Pump to lock down a win at the No. 3 position.

WSU (2-0) gained some sweet revenge, as well. Arkansas defeated the Shockers twice last year in Fayetteville. WSU was 5-6 overall, last spring against ranked teams

"We know it's a long season, but this weekend was certainly a confirmation of what we saw last fall in individual workouts," said WSU head coach Colin Foster. "We have a strong team from top to bottom. We got contributions from everyone and are looking forward to the challenge ahead of us next weekend in Los Angeles."

The Shockers will compete in the ITA Kickoff Weekend. They'll face Pepperdine on Saturday, Jan. 24 in an 11 a.m. CT match, then meet either USC or Denver the following day.
