SAN MARCOS, Texas – Wichita State finished the Delta Zeta Classic with a five-set win over UTSA. The Shockers won by scores of 20-25, 25-23, 25-19, 19-25 and 15-8.

Katie Reilly led the Shockers with 12 kills, while Emily Hiebert had 33 assists and Dani Mostrom had 21 digs.

WSU took a 2-0 lead in the first set, but after that UTSA took control. The Roadrunners used three-straight kills to go in front 8-4 and increased the lead to 17-11 with another kill. The Shockers used a 4-0 run to pull within 22-20, but UTSA closed out the set with a 25-20 win.

The Shockers took a 6-4 lead after a kill from MaryAshton Floyd, but a 4-0 run gave the Roadrunners an 8-6 lead. Behind the serving of Floyd, WSU took a 12-8 lead helped by three Floyd service aces. An ace by UTSA tied the score at 13 and the Roadrunners took a 16-15 lead with a kill. The Shockers used a block by Mikaela Raudsepp and Hiebert to go in front 17-16 and WSU held on to win the set 25-23.

The third set went back and forth until the Shockers used a 5-0 run to go in front 14-10. A Reilly kill increased the lead to 21-13 and WSU closed out the set 25-19 on a kill by Whitledge.

UTSA jumped out to a 3-0 lead in the fourth set, but the Shockers tied it at eight with a Byers and Reilly block. A kill by Floyd gave the Shocks their first lead at 12-11, but a 6-0 run by the Roadrunners gave UTSA a 17-13 lead. The Shockers got to within 20-19 on a kill by Jenny Whitledge, but UTSA scored the final five points for a 25-19 win.

Reilly's kill gave WSU a 1-0 lead in the fifth set and the Shockers never trailed as a Dani Mostrom service ace ended it in a 15-8 win.

The Shockers are next in action on Fri., Sept. 12 against Bowling Green at 4:30 p.m. in Omaha, Neb.
