Box Score SAN MARCOS, Texas – North Texas won the final three sets as Wichita State fell to the Mean Green in five sets. UNT won by scores of 22-25, 18-25, 25-23, 25-13 and 15-10.
Mikaela Raudsepp led the Shockers with 18 kills and 13 digs. Emily Hiebert had 41 assists and 13 digs, while Dani Mostrom had 16 digs.
North Texas jumped out to a 5-2 lead in the first set, but the Shockers responded with five-straight to take a 7-5 lead. UNT retook the lead at 15-14, but the Shockers used a block by Hiebert and Byers to go in front 18-17. The two teams traded points down the stretch until WSU used a service ace from Floyd and a kill from Raudsepp to take a 25-22 win.
The Mean Green again took a 5-2 lead to start the second set, but the Shockers used three-straight kills from Raudsepp to tie it at five. The two teams went back and forth until Hiebert and Reilly combined for three-straight points to put WSU up 12-9. WSU finished the set on a 5-0 run to win 25-18.
The Shockers raced out to a 5-2 lead in the third set after a kill from Byers, but UNT came back to tie it at eight. The Mean Green used a service ace to go in front 11-10, but a 4-0 Shocker run put WSU up 16-12. UNT answered with their own 3-0 run to cut the lead to 17-16 and took a 21-18 lead with a 5-0 run. The Shockers pulled to within 22-21 with a Reilly kill, but UNT won the set 25-23.
The Mean Green cruised to a 7-1 lead in the fourth set and were never threatened in the 25-13 win.
UNT grabbed a 7-4 lead in the fifth set and went on to win the set 15-10.
The Shockers finish the tournament on Sat., Sept. 6 against UTSA at 11:30 a.m.
