VB: Shocks Beat Texas State, 3-2

Box Score SAN MARCOS, Texas – Wichita State had four players with double-digit kills in a 3-2 win over Texas State. The Shockers (3-2) won by scores of 26-24, 29-31, 22-25, 25-19 and 15-9.

MaryAshton Floyd had 16 kills, Katie Reilly had 13 kills and hit .524, Kristin Byers had 12 kills and Mikaela Raudsepp had 10 kills and 20 digs. Emily Hiebert led the Shockers with 53 assists and 24 digs and Dani Mostrom had 29 digs.

The Bobcats used a 3-0 run to take an early 7-4 lead in the first set. The Shockers answered with three-straight to tie it at seven, but TSU then went on a 4-0 run to go in front 11-7. A kill from Mikaela Raudsepp pulled WSU within 17-16 and a block by Katie Reilly and Abbie Lehman tied the score at 20. WSU tied it again at 24 on a kill by Raudsepp and took the first lead of the set at 25-24 on a service ace by Raudsepp. WSU won the set 26-24 on a Bobcat error.

MaryAshton Floyd began the second set with a kill and a service ace to give the Shocks a quick 2-0 lead. TSU came back to take the lead 5-3, but two kills from Floyd and two from Hiebert helped put WSU in front 10-7. The Bobcats used a 3-0 run to tie the score at 15 and then took a 17-16 lead with a kill. WSU used a block by Reilly and Floyd to tie the score at 18 and a Byers and Raudsepp block to take a 22-21 lead. WSU reached set point at 24-23 on a Byers kill, but the two teams traded points until the Bobcats scored three-straight for a 31-29 win.

Texas State jumped out to a 6-2 lead in the third set and increased the lead to 12-7 with a service ace. The Shockers pulled to within 15-14 on two-straight aces from Reilly, but the Bobcats answered with a 3-0 run to go in front 18-14. The Shockers tied it at 18 on a service ace by Gabi Mostrom, but the Bobcats pulled away for the 25-22 win.

Kills from Raudsepp and Floyd put WSU up 6-4 in the fourth set and the Shockers increased the lead to 12-6 on another kill from Floyd. The Bobcats pulled to within 22-19 with a 3-0 run, but WSU closed out the set 25-19.

A block by Byers and Hiebert gave the Shocks a 5-2 lead in the fifth set and three-straight kills from Reilly increased the lead to 13-6. The Shockers won the set 15-9 on a kill from Lehman.

The Shockers are next in action later today at 5 p.m. against North Texas.
