Box Score CHICAGO, Ill. – Wichita State improved to 3-1 in Missouri Valley Conference play with a 3-0 win over Loyola. The Shockers won by scores of 25-23, 25-23 and 25-22.
Abbie Lehman led the Shockers with 12 kills and hit .500, while Emily Hiebert had 36 assists and Dani Mostrom had 12 digs.
Loyola raced out to a 5-1 lead in the first set, but the Shockers used a block by Mikaela Raudsepp and Abbie Lehman to tie the score at 12 and a kill from Jenny Whitledge to take a 13-12 lead. The two teams traded points until the Shockers grabbed a 22-19 lead on a Rambler error. A kill by MaryAshton Floyd brought the Shockers to set point at 24-21 and WSU held on to win 25-23.
The Ramblers got off to another fast start in the second set by grabbing a 7-3 lead. The Shockers pulled to within 11-9 on a kill from Katie Reilly, but the Ramblers used a kill to take a 17-12 lead. The Shockers used a kill from Floyd and a service ace from Reilly to cut the lead to 19-18 and used a 4-0 run to go in front 23-21. The teams went back-and-forth until a Reilly kill gave WSU the 25-23 win.
The Shockers used a 4-0 run to take a 15-9 lead in the third set and three-straight kills from Lehman pushed the lead to 22-15. WSU reached match point at 24-15, but Loyola reeled off seven-straight points to cut the lead to 24-22. WSU finally won the set 25-22 on a kill from Lehman.
The Shockers are next in action on Fri., Oct. 3 against UNI in Charles Koch Arena at 7 p.m. It is the Dig Pink match and the Shockers will wear pink jerseys to be auctioned off throughout the match to support breast cancer research and awareness. Other promotions on Friday night include faculty and staff night where WSU faculty and staff members receive free admission with a Shocker ID and $5 group tickets for their families and Kid's Night where Wichita area schools receive free admission and $5 group tickets for their families.
