Box Score OMAHA, Neb. – Creighton used 18 kills from All-American Kelli Browning to defeat Wichita State 3-1. The Bluejays won by scores of 25-15, 16-25, 27-25 and 25-19.
Freshman Abbie Lehman led the Shockers with 16 kills and hit .538, while freshman Emily Hiebert had 40 assists and sophomore Dani Mostrom had 30 digs.
Lehman and Ashlyn Driskill were both named to the all-tournament team.
CU grabbed a quick 2-0 lead in the first set, but a kill from Jenny Whitledge tied it at two. A kill from Katie Reilly tied it at five and after that CU used a 9-2 run to go in front 14-7. The Bluejays led by as many as 10 in the 25-15 win.
WSU used a 6-0 run to take an early 7-2 lead in the second set. A service ace by Gabi Mostrom increased the lead to 15-7 and kills from Mikaela Raudsepp and Abbie Lehman made the score 21-13. WSU won the set 25-16 on a Raudsepp kill.
The third set went back and forth with WSU never leading by more than three and CU not taking its first lead until 22-21. The Shockers reached set point at 24-22, but CU used two kills to tie it at 24. WSU again reached set point at 25-24, but the Bluejays scored the final three points to win 27-25.
A service ace by Gabi Mostrom gave WSU a 7-2 lead in the fourth set, but the Bluejays used a 9-0 run to take a 21-14 lead. The Shockers got no closer than five the rest of the way in the 25-19 CU win.
The Shockers are next in action on Fri., Sept. 19 against Illinois State in the home opener at 7 p.m. inside Charles Koch Arena.
