LEXINGTON, Ky. – Wichita State fell to No. 19 Kentucky, 3-0, in the season opener at the Bluegrass Battle. The Wildcats won by scores of 25-18, 25-14, and 25-16.

Freshman Mikaela Raudsepp led the Shockers with 11 kills in her Shocker debut. Freshman Emily Hiebert had 19 assists and 10 digs in her debut.

The Shockers took an early 3-1 lead in the first set after a service ace by Ashlyn Driskill, but the Wildcats came back to take their first lead of the set at 7-6. UK used two-straight kills to increase the lead to 15-9, but two kills from Mikaela Raudsepp and another ace from Driskill cut the lead to 15-12. A kill from MaryAshton Floyd pulled the Shocks within 16-14, but UK pulled away for a 25-18 win.

 WSU jumped out 4-2 in the second set, but the Wildcats used an 8-1 run to pull in front 10-5. The Shockers answered with a 4-0 run to cut the lead to 14-11, but the Wildcats used three-straight kills to make the score 18-12. UK went on to win the set 25-14.

The third set went back-and-forth until UK used a 7-2 run to go in front 15-7. The Shockers got no closer than seven the rest of the way in a 25-16 UK win.

The Shockers are next in action on Sat., Aug. 30 against Virginia Tech at 11 a.m.
