Box Score TERRE HAUTE, Ind. – Casey Gillaspie homered twice, but Indiana State beat Wichita State 5-4 in the final game of a three-game series.
Gillaspie went 2-for-3 with two home runs and two RBI. He became the first Shocker to homer from both sides of the plate in the same game since Tim Hayes did it at Indiana State on April 25, 1998.
Starter Sam Tewes took the loss. He went five innings and gave up five runs on six hits with three walks and three strikeouts.
The Sycamores took a 1-0 lead in the second inning. With one out, Jeff Zahn singled and moved to second on a wild pitch. Derek Hannahs then singled to right field to drive in Zahn and give INS a 1-0 lead.
INS added to the lead in the third. With two outs, Mike Fitzgerald walked and Tony Rosselli homered to left field to put the Sycamores in front 3-0.
Casey Gillaspie hit his seventh home run of the season to cut the lead to 3-1 in the fourth.
The Sycamores added to the lead in the fifth. With two outs, Jacob Hayes singled and after a walk to Fitzgerald, Roselli doubled off the wall in right field to increase the lead to 5-1.
Gillaspie homered again in the sixth to cut the lead to 5-2. Chase Simpson singled and moved to third on a single from Garrett Bayliff. Simpson scored on a ground ball by Micah Green to make the score 5-3.
Tanner Dearman singled to left field with one out in the ninth and moved to second on a bunt from Dayne Parker. After an intentional walk to Gillaspie, Simpson reached on an error and Dearman scored to cut the lead to 5-4.
The Shockers are next in action on Tue., April 8 at Kansas State at 6:30 p.m.
