Box Score WICHITA, Kan. – Missouri State scored the winning run in the top of the ninth to defeat Wichita State 4-3 in the final game of a three-game series.
Reliever Ray Ashford took the loss. He pitched 2.1 innings and allowed one run on one hit with two strikeouts.
Erik Harbutz went 3-for-4 with a run, while Tanner Dearman, Casey Gillaspie and Dayne Parker each drove in a run.
Matt Fultz led off the second with a single and after two-straight strikeouts, the Bears had two-straight singles to score Fultz to go in front 1-0.
Micah Green singled through the right side with one out in the second and moved to second on an infield single from Erik Harbutz. Zair Koeiman walked to load the bases and Tanner Dearman singled through the left side to drive in Green and tie the score at one. Dayne Parker then hit a sacrifice fly to right field to score Harbutz and give the Shocks a 2-1 lead.
The Bears answered in the top of the third. With two outs, Fultz singled and Conor Smith hit a ball to left field that was dropped to put runners at second and third. After a walk loaded the bases, Trey Hair singled to drive in Fultz and Smith and give the Bears a 3-2 lead.
The Shockers tied it with a run in the eighth. Parker reached on an error with two outs and pinch runner Wes Phillips scored from first on a double down the right field line by Gillaspie to tie the game at three.
Aaron Meyer doubled to right-center with one out in the ninth and scored on a pinch-hit single by Matt Dezort to give the Bears a 4-3 lead.
The Shockers are next in action on Tue., March 25 against Nebraska at 6:30 p.m. at Eck Stadium.
