Box Score WICHITA, Kan. – Wichita State used a strong pitching performance from Cale Elam to defeat Missouri State 5-1 in game two of a three-game series.
Elam went 8.2 innings and allowed one run on eight hits with no walks and eight strikeouts. He improved to 4-0 with the win.
Casey Gillaspie went 2-for-3 with four RBI and a double for the Shockers, while Tanner Dearman went 2-for-3 with two runs and Micah Green went 3-for-4 with a run and a double.
Tanner Dearman led off the third with a single to left field and moved to third on a single to right field from Dayne Parker. Casey Gillaspie's sacrifice fly to centerfield scored Dearman to give the Shocks a 1-0 lead.
Micah Green led off the fourth with an infield single to short and after an error and a hit by pitch loaded the bases, Gillaspie walked to score Green and put the Shocks in front 2-0.
With one out in the sixth, Dearman and Parker both walked and Gillaspie doubled to left-center to drive them both in for a 4-0 lead.
Parker singled off the pitcher with one out in the eighth and moved to second on a ground out. He scored on a single to right field from Garrett Bayliff to give the Shocks a 5-0 lead.
Missouri State scored its first run of the series in the ninth. Matt Fultz led off the inning with a double to left field and moved to third on a fly ball from Conor Smith. Fultz scored on a sacrifice fly from Spencer Johnson for the final score of 5-1.
The Shockers and Bears wrap up the series on Sun., March 23 at 1 p.m.
