WICHITA, Kan. – No. 62 Wichita State took down UT-Arlington 4-0 on Monday at the Wichita Country Club in Wichita. Monday's dual-match win for the Shockers included sweeps of both doubles and singles play. No. 62 Wichita State improved to 6-2 during their dual-match season while currently on a six dual-match winning streak. UT-Arlington fell to 4-4 in dual-match play.
The doubles portion began with a Veronika Blaskova/Lucia Kovalova 8-3 victory over the team of Ekaterina Tugarinova/Elizabeth Thoms.
Rebecca Pedrazzi/Montse Blasco Fernandez (the ninth ranked doubles team in the Intercollegiate Tennis Association's Central Doubles Rankings) secured the doubles point and doubles sweep by defeating UT-Arlington's team of Astrid Gehre/Angeles de los Rios by an 8-3 score. The Shockers took the 1-0 dual-match lead into singles play.
Julia Schiller won 6-2, 6-0 over Giada D'ortona to give the Shockers a 2-0 lead. Kovalova pushed the lead to 3-0 in favor of the Shockers after earning a 6-2, 7-5 win against de los Rios. Pedrazzi clinched the dual-match for No. 62 Wichita State when she defeated Toms 6-3, 7-5.
No. 62 Wichita State is back in action from February 21-23 when they go on a three-match Colorado road trip to face Northern Colorado, No. 50 University of Denver, and the University of Colorado respectively.
