WICHITA, Kan.- Darius Carter recorded a double-double and four Shockers scored in double figures to lead the Wichita State men's basketball team past Seton Hall 77-68 on Tuesday night inside Charles Koch Arena.

Ron Baker led the scoring for Wichita State, with 22 points on 9-of-11 shooting, including a perfect 3-for-3 from three-point range. Fred VanVleet scored 18 points and handed out eight assists, while Darius Carter scored 16 points and pulled down 12 rebounds. Tekele Cotton added 11 points on 5-of-9 shooting.

­One minute into the game, a steal by Fred VanVleet led to a Ron Baker layup in transition to start the scoring for Wichita State. Seton Hall jumped out to an early lead and Tekele Cotton's fade-away jumper cut its lead to one, 5-4, with 16:13 remaining in the half. The Shockers went into the first media timeout down 8-4.

Back-to-back buckets from Rashard Kelly and Baker dunk in transition gave Wichita State its first lead of the contest, 14-13, and forced a Seton Hall timeout midway through the half.

Out of the timeout, Cotton used a shot-fake to connect on a runner in the lane. Then a Baker three and two free-throws from Shaquille Morris completed a 13-0 run for Wichita State to give them a 21-13 advantage with 8:16 remaining in the half.

Wichita State continued to pour it on later, going on a 11-0 run. Cotton fueled the run with a dunk and a three-pointer, while Baker's layup at the 2:25 mark put the Shockers up 34-18.

VanVleet's two free throws with eight seconds remaining in the half gave Wichita State a 40-25 lead at the break.

Baker led the scoring for Wichita State in the first half with 13 points on 6-of-8 shooting. VanVleet added four points and five assists as the Shockers shot 17-for-31 (.548) from the floor, while holding the Pirates to 9-of-25 (.360) shooting. Wichita State outscored Seton Hall in the paint 24-6 and scored 17 points off 12 turnovers.

Less than two minutes into the second half, VanVleet connected on a three-pointer to stretch the Shocker lead to 18, 43-25. A layup from Darius Carter and another three, this time from Baker, gave Wichita State its first 20-point advantage of the game, 49-29, with 16:37 remaining.

Corey Henderson drove to the basket and hit a reverse layup to keep the Pirates at bay and give his team a 55-37 lead at the 11:47 mark.

The Pirates cut the lead down to as many as 14 before Carter grabbed a rebound off a missed shot, passed it to VanVleet in the corner and who a three to put Wichita State up 17, 63-46. A three on the next possession by Baker stretched the lead to 20 again with 7:36 remaining in the game.

The lead stayed in double-digits most of the way, as head coach Gregg Marshall emptied his bench to end the game.

Wichita State shot 29-for-55 (.527) from the field for the game, including 6-of-13 (.462) from three-point land. The Shocker defense forced 18 turnovers and out-scored Seton Hall in the paint 38-24.

The Shockers are next in-action when they travel to Detroit, Mich. on Sat. Dec. 13 for a game against Detroit at 11 a.m. The game will be broadcast on ESPNU.
