Box Score WICHITA, Kan.- The Wichita State volleyball team won its final home match of the season, defeating Southern Illinois 3-0 on Saturday night inside Charles Koch Arena. The Shockers won by scores of 25-11, 25-18 and 25-19.
Abbie Lehman led the Shocker attack with 13 kills. Emily Hiebert had 33 assists and Jenny Whitledge added 10 digs.
The Shockers took control of the first set early. Already up 7-5 and with Whitledge serving, Wichita State rattled off 11-straight points to go ahead 18-6. Ashlyn Driskill and MaryAshton Floyd each had three kills to fuel the Shocker run. Later, Floyd's kill won Wichita State the set, 25-11.
Lehman gave the Shockers another lead when her kill early in the second set put her team ahead, 3-0, and Gabi Mostrom's service ace a couple points later stretched the lead to 5-1. The Salukis got as close as 15-14, but Wichita State pulled away again, using a three-point run to go up 19-15. The Shockers scored the last five points of the set to win, 25-18.
Wichita State overcame and early 3-1 deficit with back-to-back kills from Lehman and Whitledge to tie the score 3-3. Later, a 5-1 Shocker run capped by another Lehman kill put the lead at 12-9. Southern Illinois pulled within one again, but five consecutive Wichita State points put the set away and the Shockers went on to win, 25-19.
The Shockers will now hit the road and head to Terre Haute, Ind. for a match against Indiana State on Fri., Nov. 21 at 6 p.m.
