WICHITA, Kan. – The Wichita State volleyball team swept Drake 3-0 inside the Charles Koch Arena on Saturday night in front of 2,558 fans in attendance. Wichita State clinched the match by scores of 25-15, 25-21 and 25-20.

With the win, the Shockers improved to 10-6 overall and 4-2 in Missouri Valley Conference play. Drake dropped to 9-7 overall and 1-4 in MVC play.

Mikaela Raudsepp and Abbie Lehman led the team in kills with eight while Ashlyn Driskill had a hitting percentage of .700. Emily Hiebert had 30 assists, while Dani Mostrom had 23 digs.

As a team, the Shockers had 41 kills and 35 assists while hitting .245. Drake finished with 35 kills, 33 assists and had a team hitting percentage of .151.

The first set began with five lead changes and seven different ties. In that span, neither team only led the set by no more than one point. After the score was 8-8 in the first set, the Shockers scored five straight points which was capped off by a MaryAshton Floyd service ace to make the score 13-8 in favor of Wichita State.

Wichita State used another quick 3-1 run to widen their lead to 16-9. Drake would cut the Shocker lead to six at 16-10, 17-11 and 19-13 before Wichita State went on a 6-2 run to take the first set 25-15. Lehman led the team in kills during the first set with five.

Drake took an 11-7 lead during the second set, forcing Wichita State to use a timeout. The Shockers then went on a 6-2 run to tie the set at 13 all. After the tie at 13 all, the Shockers used a second 6-2 run to push their advantage to 19-15. Wichita State and Drake each scored six more points, but this clinched the second set for the Shockers, 25-21. Driskill and Jenny Whitledge tied for the team lead in kills during the second set with three apiece.

The third set had four ties and five lead changes before the Shockers went on a 9-2 run to go up 13-5. Drake went on a 3-0 run to cut the deficit to 13-8 before the Shockers were forced to call timeout. Each team would score six points, but Wichita State's lead was still five at 19-14. Drake used a 4-2 run to get within three points, cutting the Shocker lead to 21-18. A 5-2 run clinched the sweep for Wichita State, winning the third set 25-20 and winning the match 3-0. Driskill and Raudsepp each led the team with four kills apiece in the third set.

The Shockers' next match will be on Oct. 10 when they face Missouri State in Springfield, Mo. at 7 p.m.
