VB: Shocks Win Third Straight with Sweep of Loyola

WICHITA, Kan. – Wichita State extended its winning streak to three straight after a 3-0 sweep of the Loyola Ramblers by scores of 25-22, 25-22 and 25-20 on Friday night at Charles Koch Arena in front of 2,499 fans.

The win moves Wichita State to 13-7 overall this season and 7-3 in the Missouri Valley Conference, while Loyola dropped to 7-12 and 3-7.

Junior MaryAshton Floyd paved the way for Wichita State with a match-high 13 kills, while Abbie Lehman and Ashlyn Driskill each recorded nine kills. Lehman's .692 attack percentage led all players. Emily Hiebert collected 28 assists and Dani Mostrom added 17 digs.

As a team, the Shocks combined for 50 kills, while hitting .314 for the match. The Ramblers finished with 37 kills and hit just .196. WSU registered 47 assists as a team compared to just 34 for Loyola.

Loyola led by five in the early stages of the first set, 11-6, but a quick 4-1 run closed the gap to 12-10. A WSU 4-0 run then tied the match at 16-16, forcing a Loyola timeout. Following the timeout, the Shockers stretched their run to 6-0 giving WSU an 18-16 lead. Wichita State closed the set by scoring four of the final six points to win, 25-22. Floyd and Lehman led the attack with six and five kills, respectively. Lehman finished the set with a perfect attack percentage. Hiebert collected 10 assists in the opening set.

The Shockers picked up right where they left off to open the second set by taking an early 6-2 lead. Wichita State led by as many as seven points in the set (13-6). Facing their largest deficit, the Ramblers mounted a 4-0 run to close the deficit to three, 13-10. WSU's lead would shrink to just one, as Loyola continued its comeback. A late Rambler rally wasn't enough, as the Shocks held on to win the second set, 25-22.

Both teams played a tightly contested third set with the largest lead being just four points by WSU, 14-10. With the set tied, 16-16, the Shocks clinched the set and match after a 9-4 run to win 25-20. Driskill recorded a team-high seven kills in the final set to help WSU register the sweep.
