WBB: Shockers Take Down Indiana State, 83-63

TERRE HAUTE, Ind.- Jamillah Bonner scored 23 points and handed out five assists to help lead the Wichita State women's basketball team past Indiana State 83-63 to remain the only unbeaten team in Missouri Valley Conference play and capture its 15th consecutive win.

Alex Harden added 18 points, pulled down seven rebounds and handed out four assists. Alie Decker had 17 points on 6-of-7 shooting, including 5-of-6 from three-point land.

Bonner and Michaela Dapprich hit back-to-back three-pointers to start the game for Wichita State (16-2, 7-0), and a steal and layup by Harden capped an 8-0 run and forced Indiana State to take a timeout at the 17:55 mark. Decker hit her first three of the game with 16:03 remaining in the first half to put the score at 13-2 Shockers.

Harden nailed a pull-up jumper at free-throw line to continue the scoring for Wichita State and stretch the lead to 21-8. Later, a Bonner jumper at the 8:38 mark capped a 7-0 run for the Shockers that put them up 17, 28-11.

After a jumper by Harden at the 6:00 mark that put the score at 33-16 Shockers, neither team scored for almost four minutes. Decker scored the last five points of the half for Wichita State with a three-pointer and a jumper from the baseline.

The Shockers went into the half up 38-22, led by Decker's 14 points. She connected on all five of her shots in the first 20 minutes, including a perfect 4-for-4 from behind the arc. Harden added 10 points and Bonner had nine points and led the team in rebounds with four. Wichita State shot 15-for-30 from the field in the first half, including 6-for-9 from three-point land. They also scored 12 points off of 10 Sycamore turnovers.

Bonner started a 7-0 run for Wichita State early in the second half with a three-pointer from the right corner. The run was capped with a jumper from Michaela Dapprich at the 18:07 mark that saw the Shockers lead 45-24.

Four minutes later, after Indiana State had tried to cut into the lead, Kelsey Jacobs completed an old-fashioned three-point play which put her team up 22, 53-31. Bonner completed a three-point play of her own with 8:21 remaining in the game to give Wichita State its biggest lead of the night, 69-41.

The lead never dipped below 20 for the remainder of the game as the Shockers connected on their first 13 shots of the second half and went on to win 83-63.

Wichita State shot 29-for-49 (.592) from the field for the game, including 8-for-13 (.615) from behind the three-point line. The Shockers also won the rebounding battle 36-24.

The Shockers will now return home to play Southern Illinois on Fri., Jan. 31 inside Charles Koch Arena at 7 p.m.
