Scouting Northwestern
Northwestern is 22-23 overall and 9-15 in the Big 10. The Wildcats are coming off of a series loss to No. 14 Indiana over the weekend. Wins this season have come against Miami (Ohio), Ball State, Northern Kentucky, Lipscomb, LIU Brooklyn, North Dakota State, Bucknell, Iowa twice, Chicago State twice, St. Francis, UIC twice, Purdue twice, Wheaton College, Michigan twice, Illinois, Ohio State and Indiana. Losses have come against Michigan State, Saint Louis, Missouri State three times, Iowa, Nebraska three times, Purdue, Minnesota three times, Michigan, Milwaukee, Illinois twice, Western Michigan, Ohio State twice, Chicago and Indiana twice. As a team, the Wildcats are hitting .277 with a team ERA of 3.27. Kyle Ruchim leads NU offensively as he is hitting .361 with 15 doubles, three triples, two home runs and 24 RBI. The Wildcats are led by 26th-year head coach Paul Stevens.

Wichita State leads the overall series with Northwestern 5-1. The Shockers also lead the series in Wichita 2-1. WSU also owns a win over NU in Honolulu and two in Mobile, Ala.

Last Meeting vs. NU
The last meeting between the two teams was Feb. 28, 1998, in Mobile, Ala. The Shockers won the game 14-9.  The Shockers scored six runs in the top of the ninth to win. Matt Patrick went 2-for-5 with four RBI and a home run. Reliever Brian Schoenhofer earned the win.

Brummett in a Starting Role
Freshman pitcher Garrett Brummett made his first career start on April 24 against Oral Roberts and has put up impressive numbers in his four career starts. He is 3-0 with a 0.43 ERA in those four starts. He has pitched 21 innings and has allowed just one run on 12 hits with four walks and eight strikeouts. He has allowed just one run in his last 22.1 innings pitched overall.

Bullpen Impressive
The Shocker bullpen made a statement in Missouri Valley Conference play in 2013. Eight pitchers combined for a 1.34 bullpen ERA in Valley play this season. In 80.1 innings pitched, the bullpen allowed just 12 earned runs on 58 hits with 21 walks and 70 strikeouts. The bullpen went 8-0 with eight saves. TJ McGreevy led the bullpen with three wins, while Brandon Peterson had two wins and six saves, Aaron LaBrie had a win and a save, Albert Minnis had a win and a save and Foster Vielock had a win.
