WICHITA, Kan. - Wichita State baseball student-athlete's
Tyler Baker and TJ McGreevy have been named the Missouri Valley Conference
Player-of-the-Week and Pitcher-of-the-Week for the week of Feb. 25-March 3.
Baker and McGreevy led the Shockers to a 4-1 week with wins
over Arkansas-Little Rock, Western Illinois, New Orleans and Iowa.
Baker, a
sophomore catcher from Topeka, Kan., went 9-for-15 (.600) with six runs, three
doubles, two home runs and four RBI. He had a 1.200 slugging percentage
on the week as well as a perfect fielding percentage in 31 total chances behind
the plate.
In a 9-5 win over
Arkansas-Little Rock, he went 2-for-4 with two runs, an RBI, a double and a
home run and in an 11-3 win over Western Illinois, he went 1-for-2 with two
runs, an RBI, a home run and a walk. He had a career-high three hits
against New Orleans along with a run and a double and he went 1-for-1 with an
RBI as a pinch hitter against Central Arkansas. He finished the weekend
going 2-for-4 with a run, an RBI and a double against Iowa. He had a hit
in all five games last week and increased his career-best hitting streak to
eight games.
McGreevy, a
senior pitcher from Topeka, Kan., made two relief appearances for the Shockers
last week and picked up a win and a save. He went 1-0 with a 0.00 ERA and
a save in 6.1 innings with no walks and seven strikeouts. Against
Arkansas-Little Rock, he came into the game in the bottom of the seventh inning
with runners on first and second with two outs and the Shockers winning by one
run. He retired seven of the eight batters he faced and struck out three of
them to earn his first save of the season. Against Iowa, he pitched four
shutout innings of relief and allowed just two hits with no walks and four
strikeouts to earn his first win of the season.
The Shockers are
next in action on Tue., March 5 when they host Oral Roberts at 3 p.m. at Eck
Stadium.
