Box Score HONOLULU, Hawaii – Hawaii used four runs in the fourth inning to defeat Wichita State 6-1 in game one of a five-game series.
Tyler Baker went 3-for-4 with an RBI and a double. Starter Tobin Mateychick took the loss. He went 3.1 innings and gave up four runs on three hits with four walks and a strikeout.
The Shockers jumped on the board in the first inning. Casey Gillaspie doubled to left-center with two outs and scored on a single from Tyler Baker to put the Shocks up 1-0.
The Rainbows answered with a run in the bottom of the first. Stephen Ventimilia led off with a single, stole second and went to third on a wild pitch. After a walk to Pi'ikea Kitamura, Adam Hurley hit into a double play that allowed Ventimilia to score to tie the game at one.
Hawaii used two walks and two hits to score four more in the fourth to take a 5-1 lead and added another run in the seventh to go in front 6-1.
The Shockers and Rainbows play game two of the series at 11:35 p.m. Central time on Thurs., March 21.
