Box Score OMAHA, Neb.- Despite 18 points from senior Demetric
Williams, Wichita State fell 91-79 in the final game of the regular season on
Saturday afternoon at the CenturyLink
Center.
Williams was
6-for-14 from the field and dished out six assists. Carl Hall and Tekele Cotton
added 15 points apiece for the Shockers.
Doug McDermott led
Creighton with 41 points, shooting 15-for-18 from the field and 5-for-8 from
behind the arc. Austin Chatman and Grant Gibbs each had 12 points.
McDermott had a hot hand early, making his first five
attempts and scoring 12 points as the Jays bolted to a 15-8 lead. Wichita State
would use an 8-0 run to take its first lead at 20-19 on a three-pointer by Cotton
with 7:17 left in the first half. Creighton got scores from McDermott and Will
Artino inside to go ahead 23-20, but the Shockers once again responded with a
7-0 run.
Creighton would close the first half on a 9-2 run to take a 36-31 margin into
the intermission. Wichita State was paced by eight points and six rebounds from
Carl Hall in the first half.
Cotton answered a McDermott 3-pointer at the beginning of
the second half to jump-start a 7-0 run for the Shockers.
Creighton iced the game with an 11-2 run that was fueled by back-to-back
three-pointers by Ethan Wragge, followed by an Austin Chatman trey forced a
Shocker timeout with Creighton leading, 66-54.
The Shockers responded with their fourth run of the game,
this one a 9-0 flurry to trim Creighton's lead to seven, but were unable to get
any closer.
Wichita State will head to the Missouri Valley Conference
Tournament March 7-10 as the No. 2 seed.
