Wichita State defeated New Orleans 5-1 in the first game of the day for the
Shockers.
Tyler Baker and Dayne Parker each went 3-for-4 for the
Shocks, while Garrett Bayliff had two RBI.
Tobin Mateychick earned the win. He went 5.1 innings and gave up one run
on four hits with two strikeouts.
The Privateers used a walk, stolen base, wild pitch and
single to score a run in the bottom of the fourth, but the Shockers answered
with a run in the top of the fifth. Mikel Mucha led off with a single to
centerfield and moved to third on a single from Dayne Parker. With one out,
Garrett Bayliff hit a sac fly to left field to score Mucha and tie the score
1-1.
Tyler Baker led off the sixth with a double and scored on a
bunt single from Erik Harbutz and a Privateer error to give the Shocks a 2-1
lead.
WSU used singles from Mucha and Parker and a triple from
Bayliff to score three more in the ninth for a 5-1 win.
The Shockers are next in action at 4 p.m. today against
Central Arkansas.
