Box Score WICHITA, Kan. - Tobin
Mateychick, Albert Minnis, and Brandon Peterson combined to strike out 15 North
Dakota batters and gave up three hits as the Shockers defeated North
Dakota 6-1 to improve to 10-5 on the season.
Mateychick struck out the first five batters he faced and
retired the first nine of the game to lead the strong pitching performance. Dayne
Parker led the Shockers offensively, going 2-for-3 with a double and two RBI.
Wichita State started the scoring in the first with
back-to-back singles from Mikel Mucha and Taylor Doggett followed by a
sacrifice fly from Johnny Coy that scored Mucha to give the Shockers an early
1-0 lead.
The Shockers increased their lead to 3-0 after Tanner Dearman
singled up the middle that scored Garrett Bayliff and Parker.
A two RBI single from Parker scored Bayliff and Erik Harbutz
in the third inning to give the Shockers a 5-0 advantage. Casey Gillaspie
homered over the right field wall for his sixth home run of the year to give
the Shockers a 6-0 lead after four innings.
North Dakota scored their lone run in the fifth inning to cut
the deficit to 6-1 after Zack Trygstad scored on a Sam Alt line out to center.
The Shockers will conclude their two game series with North
Dakota at Eck Stadium, tomorrow, March 13 at 3 p.m.
