MONROE, La. - Wichita State lost a pair of 3-1 decisions to Mississippi Valley State and ULM Saturday on the second day of the Mardi Gras Classic.

In the day's first game against 2012 NCAA Tournament participant Mississippi Valley State the Shockers fell behind on a single from Kishti Kamaka that scored Alexandria Robertson in the bottom of the second inning.

Melanie Jaegers continued her hot streak to open the season singling through the right side of the infield to plate Layne Greenlee from second base.

In the bottom of the fourth Kamaka delivered the deciding blow for Mississippi Valley State hitting a two-run home run over the fence in right centerfield.

The home run was one of the few mistakes senior hurler Katie Armagost made in the contest. Armagost retired the final seven batters she faced and allowed only four hits in six innings of work.

Jaegers led the Shocker offense going 2-for-3 with the third inning RBI.

Against host school ULM the Shockers fell into an early deficit surrendering three runs in the opening inning. Scoring plays for the Warhawks included and RBI double by Alexis Cocioppo and a two-run single from Haley McCall.

Similar to the day's opening game against Mississippi Valley State, one inning overshadowed a very effective pitching performance from Sloan Anderson. Anderson pitched her second complete game of the weekend allowing six hits and striking out four.

Ali Vandever's inning-opening walk started Wichita State's strongest comeback bid of the game in the top of the fourth inning. After a wild pitch advanced Vandever to second base, Hayley Temple singled to right field to place runners on the corners. Brianne Bond singled through the right side of the infield to score Vandever with only one out. ULM pitcher Haylie Wilson induced a fly out to center from Molly Baker and a ground out to second base from Brittany Fortner to end the inning.

Wichita State will take on Northwestern State at 9 a.m. Sunday morning in the final game of the Mardi Gras Classic.
