WICHITA, Kan. - Wichita State returns to the field Feb. 15-17 at the FGCU/LaQuinta Inn and Suites Tournament in Fort Myers, Fla. where they will play five games over three days. The Shockers are schedule to play a pair of games Friday beginning with a 2:45 p.m. (CST) contest against Georgia Southern followed immediately after by a 5:00 p.m. game against host Florida Gulf Coast University.

Action will continue with another pair of games Saturday. Wichita State will take on defending national champion No. 1/2 Alabama at 10:15 a.m. This will be the second straight season the Shockers will play the defending national champion after matching up with 2011 champion Arizona State in Tempe, Ariz. last March.  In the nightcap at 7:15 p.m. Wichita State will play Appalachian State.

On Sunday, the Shockers will once again be matched with Appalachian State at 10:15 a.m. to close out the tournament for both teams.

This past weekend the Shockers got their season underway at the Mardi Gras Classic in Monroe, La. dropping three out of four games before having Sunday's slate of games cancelled due to rain.

Junior pitcher Sloan Anderson was named to the All-Tournament team in Monroe. The Hillsboro, Ore. native went 1-1 throwing two complete games with a 1.40 ERA and amassing 12 strikeouts to only one walk over 15 innings.

Ali Vandever and Melanie Jaegers each took turns pacing the Shockers at the plate over the weekend. Vandever, a junior transfer from Oklahoma, went 6-for-12 (.500) with a double and a pair of RBI's. Jaegers scored a team-high four runs, stole a team-high two bases and went 5-for-11 (.455) while catching every inning behind the plate.

After practice Tuesday, Vandever reflected on her first weekend in a Shocker uniform and looked ahead to the games in Fort Myers saying, "It was a good opener for us (in Monroe) to see where we're at. We were really ready to play. We played good on defense and pitched well and now the team's main focus is to focus on our hitting and having a better plan at the plate. We are anxious to play this weekend to see what we have."
