Box Score CARBONDALE, Ill. – Wichita State came back to force a fifth set, but fell to Southern Illinois 3-2. The Salukis won by scores of 25-23, 25-21, 19-25, 21-25, and 15-11.
Ashley Andrade led the Shockers with 17 kills and hit .552. Chelsey Feekin just missed out on a triple-double with a career-high 14 kills, 47 assists and nine digs, while hitting .650. Dani Mostrom led the Shockers with 18 digs.
The first set went back-and-forth until the Shockers used a 4-0 run to take a 7-4 lead. The Salukis came back to tie it at 13 and used a 4-0 run to go in front 17-15. The Shockers cut the lead to 24-23 after kills from Chelsey Feekin and Ashley Andrade, but SIU won the set 25-23.
The Shockers raced out to a 6-1 lead in the second set, but the Salukis came storming back to take a 10-9 lead. The two teams traded points until SIU scored six of the final seven points to win 25-21.
WSU took a 5-1 lead in the third set after a block from Elizabeth Field and Katie Reilly and used kills from Feekin and Sam Sanders to increase the lead to 10-5. A 4-0 run by the Shockers made the score 19-9, but SIU used a 4-0 run to pull within 19-13. SIU would get no closer than five the rest of the way as the Shockers won 25-19.
The fourth set went back-and-forth until the Shocks used a 6-0 run to take a 10-4 lead. Two kills from Ashley Andrade made the score 16-10, but a 3-0 run by the Salukis pulled SIU to within 16-13. The Salukis made the score 22-21 Shockers with a kill, but WSU closed out the set on a 3-0 run to win 25-21.
SIU grabbed a 9-5 lead in the fifth set, but the Shockers used kills from Feekin and Sanders to pull within 10-9. SIU finished the set on a 5-2 run to win 15-11.
The Shockers are next in action on Fri., Nov. 8 against Indiana State at 7 p.m. inside Charles Koch Arena.
