WBB: Shockers Fall to No. 11/14 Oklahoma 89-70

NORMAN, Okla.- The Wichita State women's basketball team fell to No. 11/14 Oklahoma 89-70 on Sunday afternoon inside the Lloyd Noble Center in the second round of the WNIT.

Alex Harden scored 24 points to lead the scoring for the Shockers. Kelsey Jacobs added 15 points, going 7-for-11 from the free throw line. Jamillah Bonner scored 10 points and pulled down seven rebounds.

The Sooners opened the game on a 10-4 run, but a three-point play by Harden, and a layup by Bonner put Wichita State within one, 10-9. Oklahoma then pulled away once again, and went on to lead by as many 24 in the first half. The Shockers would not go away however and closed out the last four-plus minutes on a 15-3 run to cut the Sooner lead to 46-34. During the run, Harden scored six points and Michelle Price added four.     

Wichita State shot 13-for-32 (.406) in the first 20 minutes and forced 11 Oklahoma turnovers. Harden led the way with 15 points, while Price added eight points and four steals.

Early in the second half, a 9-0 run for the Shockers, capped by a layup from Harden cut the Oklahoma lead to 57-48. That was as close as Wichita State would get the rest of the way, and the Sooners went on to win, 89-70.

The Shockers shot 24-for-63 (.381) for the game and forced 22 Oklahoma turnovers.

Wichita State will now head to the consolation bracket of the WNIT which will continue play on Nov. 15-16.
