Box Score WICHITA, Kan. -- No. 15 Wichita State shot a
season-low 27 percent (16-for-59) and saw it's 19-game home winning streak
snapped Tuesday night by Indiana State, 68-55.
Cleanthony Early and Demetric Williams both scored double figures with 15 points and 14 points, respectively.
Manny Arop had a game-high 17 points on 7-of-11 shooting for
the Sycamores. Brown and Jake Odum each added 10 points for the Sycamores.
Wichita State (19-3, 8-2) opened the game on a 6-0 run
courtesy of back-to-back 3-pointers from Early and Williams, but Indiana State (14-7,
7-3) promptly answered with a 6-0 run of their own to even the score, 6-6, with
16:55 remaining in the half.
Neither team led by more than four following the Shockers
game opening run until Devonte Brown's layup gave the Sycamores a 31-25 with
2:12 left in the half as part of an 11-0 run. Fred VanVleet snapped the Indiana
State barrage momentarily with a 3-pointer from the top of the key, but A.J.
Mahurin's four-point play and a steal and layup from Khristian Smith over the
final 32 seconds sent the Sycamores to the halftime break with a 39-28 lead
riding a 17-3 run.
Tekele Cotton and Williams led Wichita State with eight
points in the half, each connecting on a pair of 3-pointers, respectively.
Early and Williams combined to score the first seven points
of the second half and bring the Shockers within four, 39-35.
The two teams battled back-and-forth for the majority of the
half with Wichita State getting within five points or less four separate times
and within two, 50-48, following a pair of free throws from Early with 7:34 left.
Wichita State, who attempted a season-high 28 3-pointers,
missed their final six attempts of the game from long distance as Indiana State
pulled away late.
The Shockers will travel to Cedar Falls, Iowa to take on
Northern Iowa on Sat., Feb. 2. Tip is set for 3 p.m. and the game will be
broadcast on ESPN2.
