Box Score

SPRINGFIELD, Mo. - Wichita State withstood a 19-0 Missouri State run spanning both sides of the halftime break to earn a, 62-52, road victory Wednesday night.

Cleanthony Early had 17 points and 11 rebounds to help the Shockers (18-2, 7-1) avoid the upset by the Bears (5-15, 3-5) and Wichita native Gavin Thurman. Thurman scored 21 points on 8-of-17 shooting including 3-for-6 from behind the arc.

With the Shockers leading 14-12, Early had a tip-in and poured in a 3-pointer and a pair of free throws during a 10-0 Wichita State run to take a 24-12 lead.

That's when the wheels fell off momentarily for Wichita State. Thurman scored 14 points during a 19-0 run that held the Shockers scoreless for over nine minutes of game time and gave the Bears a 35-28 lead.

After Early sank a 3-pointer to halt the Missouri State run, the Shockers cruised to the finish clamping down on defense and outscoring the Bears 34-17 to close out the victory.

With the win, senior Demetric Williams became the school record holder for victories with his 99th over his four-year career surpassing the 2011-12 senior class.

Carl Hall continued his impressive return from a broken right thumb scoring 15 points and grabbing six rebounds in only his third game back.

Wichita State will host Bradley on Sat., Jan. 26 at 7 p.m. Former Shockers men's basketball player Paul Miller and volleyball standout Sara Lungren will be inducted into the Pizza Hut Shocker Sports Hall of Fame at halftime.
