WICHITA, Kan.- The No. 62 Wichita State women's tennis team
fell to No. 40 Oklahoma State, 7-0, on Monday afternoon at Wichita Country
Club.
The match started out well for Wichita State (1-2) when
Montse Blasco Fernandez and Satjaporn Mahajaroenkul defeated Maria Alvarez and
Lorena Gheorge of Oklahoma State, 8-4. It would be the only victory of the day
for the Shocker women however, as they dropped the remaining doubles matches,
and the singles contests that followed.
Even though the Shockers have not come out on top in their
last two matches, head coach Colin Foster is still optimistic about his team.
"These were two tough matches against Oklahoma and Oklahoma
State, and obviously we have got an idea of some things to work on," Foster
said. "Even though we didn't get a lot of wins, there were a lot of positives
to come out of these matches. Players that didn't play so well against Oklahoma,
really played well today."
"We are just going to keep using these matches to build on.
Both these opponents were good, and they are going to have good seasons. We are
going to continue to get stronger," added Foster.
The Shockers next head to Austin, Texas on Saturday, January
26 for a match against Texas for the ITA Kickoff Weekend tournament. First
serve is set for 11 a.m. The next day, the Shockers will either face Stephen
F. Austin or Utah.
