Chelsey Feekin recorded the first triple double by a Shocker since 1999
as Wichita State defeated Bradley, 3-1.
The Shockers won by scores of 20-25, 25-13, 25-16 and 25-18.
Feekin finished with 10 kills, 37 assists and 13 digs and
hit .571 in the match. She is the first
Shocker to post a triple double since Caitlin Fiandt had 10 kills, 55 assists
and 18 digs against San Francisco on Sept. 4, 1999.
Emily Adney had 14 kills, while Ashley Andrade had nine
kills and 10 blocks. Jackie Church had
24 digs and three service aces.
Bradley took an early 10-5 lead in the first set and
increased it to 17-11 with a block. A
4-0 Brave run put BU in front 21-13 and the Braves reached set point at 24-16. The Shockers used a 4-0 run including kills
from Chelsey Feekin and Ashlyn Driskill and two aces from Jackie Church to pull
with 24-20, but BU closed out the set 25-20.
The Shocks grabbed a 5-1 lead in the second set after a kill
by Ashley Andrade. Back-to-back kills
from Elizabeth Field and Feekin increased the lead to 10-5. The Shockers cruised the rest of the way in
the 25-13 win.
Andrade had four early kills in the third set for a 4-1
Shocker lead. A service ace by Kelsey
Banwart gave the Shocks a 15-8 lead and WSU closed out the set 25-16.
A 7-0 Shocker run put WSU up 10-3 in the fourth set, but the
Braves answered with a 4-0 run to cut the lead to 10-7. A kill by Sam Sanders put the Shocks up 16-9
and WSU won the set 25-18.
The Shockers are next in action on Sat., Sept. 29 at
Northern Iowa at 8:30 p.m.
