Box Score DES MOINES, Iowa - Wichita State opened up Missouri Valley
Conference play with a sweep of Drake.
The Shockers (7-3, 1-0) won by scores of 25-20, 25-16 and 25-17.
Emily Adney led the Shockers with 14 kills, while Elizabeth
Field had 13 kills and hit .765. Chelsey
Feekin had 39 assists, five kills and seven digs, while Jackie Church had 18 digs.
A kill by Emily Adney gave WSU an early 7-3 lead in the
first set. DU used a 6-0 run to tie the
score at 10, but WSU answered with a 5-0 run to go in front 15-10. The Bulldogs used an ace to pull within
18-16, but the Shockers pulled away for the 25-20 win.
DU took an early 4-2 lead in the second set, but a block by
Adney and Ashley Andrade gave WSU a 12-9 lead.
Three-straight Shocker kills increased the lead to 17-10 and WSU rolled
to the 25-16 win.
The Shockers took
control of the third set by going in front 11-4 on a kill by Sam Sanders and
never looked back in the 25-16 win.
The Shockers are next in action on Sat., Sept. 15 at
Creighton at 6 p.m.
