Missouri State scored five runs in the first inning on the way to a 7-0
win over Wichita State in an elimination game in the State Farm Missouri Valley
Conference Tournament.
Starter Kris Gardner took the loss. He went 0.2 innings and allowed five runs on
five hits. Reliever Albert Minnis
pitched 5.1 innings and allowed just one run with six strikeouts.
Mikel Mucha and Tyler Baker each had a hit for the Shockers.
The Bears used four-straight singles to take a 2-0 lead in
the first inning. After a double play,
Derek Mattea was hit by a pitch and Brock Chaffin bunted for a hit, but two
Shocker errors on the play resulted in two more runs. The final run of the inning scored on a
single by Eric Cheray to give MSU a 5-0 lead.
MSU used a bloop double and single in the second inning to
increase the lead to 6-0 and added a run in the ninth for the final 7-0 score.
