Box Score OMAHA, Neb. - Wichita
State clinched the No. 3 seed in the State Farm Missouri Valley Conference
Tournament with a 5-1 win over Creighton in the final game of the
regular-season.
Johnny Coy went 4-for-5 with three runs and two doubles,
while Mikel Mucha went 3-for-4 with two RBI.
Erik Harbutz went 2-for-5 with two RBI and a home run.
Albert Minnis earned the win. He pitched 4.2 shutout innings in relief and
allowed four hits with one walk and three strikeouts.
Johnny Coy led off the second inning with a single and
advanced to third on a single through the right side by Casey Gillaspie. Mikel Mucha singled to centerfield to drive
in Coy and give the Shocks a 1-0 lead.
WSU failed to add to the score despite a double to the right field wall
by Tyler Baker after two runners were thrown out at the plate.
CU used four singles to tie it at one in the fifth inning,
but the Shockers answered in the sixth.
Coy led off with a double and scored on a single by Mucha to put WSU in
front 2-1.
Coy doubled with one out in the eighth and scored on a
two-out single from Dayne Parker to increase the lead to 3-1.
Kevin Hall singled with one out in the ninth and scored on
Erik Harbutz's second home run of the season to make the final score 5-1.
The Shockers are the No. 3 seed in next week's State Farm
Missouri Valley Conference Tournament and will face No. 6 Southern Illinois at 4
p.m. on Tue., May 22 in Springfield, Mo.
