BSB: CU Uses Five-Run Eighth to Beat Shocks 7-3

OMAHA, Neb. - Creighton used five runs in the eighth to defeat Wichita State 7-3 in game one of a three game series.

Johnny Coy went 2-for-4 with an RBI, while Josh Halbert went 1-for-3 with an RBI and Dayne Parker 1-for-4 with an RBI.

Foster Vielock took the loss.  He went 0.2 innings and allowed four runs on two hits with two walks and two strikeouts.

CU got on the board in the first inning.  Chance Ross led off with a single and advanced to second on a sacrifice bunt.  After a groundout moved Ross to third, Anthony Bemboom singled through the right side to score Ross and give CU a 1-0 lead.

Jake Peter led off the fifth with a single, advanced to second on a sacrifice bunt and moved to third on a wild pitch.  He scored on a sacrifice fly to right field by Ross to put the Bluejays in front 2-0.

The Shockers tied the game in the eighth.  Josh Halbert walked with one out and advanced to second on a groundout before Dayne Parker drove him in with a single to right field.  After  walk to Don Lambert, Johnny Coy singled to right field to tie the score at two.

The Bluejays regained the lead in the eighth.  After a one out walk to Nick Judkins, Anthony Bemboom lined a triple into right-centerfield to score Judkins and give CU a 3-2 lead.  Alex Staehely then singled to centerfield to drive in Bemboom for a 4-2 lead.  The Bluejays would add three more runs in the inning for a 7-2 advantage.

WSU scored a run in the ninth on an RBI single from Halbert.

The Shockers and Bluejays play game two of the series at 7 p.m. on Fri., May 18.
