Box Score LINCOLN, Neb. - Johnny Coy went 5-for-5 to lead Wichita
State to a 13-2 win over Nebraska.
Coy drove in five runs with a home run and a double. Micah Green went 3-for-5 with three RBI,
while Josh Halbert went 3-for-5, Erik Harbutz went 2-for-5 with two RBI and
Tyler Baker went 2-for-4 with an RBI.
Starter Tobin Mateychick earned the win. He went two innings and gave up one run on
one hit.
Johnny Coy's ninth home run of the season gave the Shocks an
early 2-0 lead in the first inning. WSU
increased the lead with four runs in the third.
Josh Halbert led off with a single and after a single from Erik Harbutz
and sacrifice bunt by Dayne Parker, Coy singled with two outs to drive in
Halbert and Harbutz. Casey Gillaspie
then singled and Micah Green doubled to drive them both in and put the Shocks
in front 6-0.
The Huskers got on the board with a run in the third, but
Harbutz hit his first home run of the season in the fourth to give WSU a 7-1
lead.
NU added a run in the sixth, but a double from Green in the
seventh drove in another run for an 8-2 Shocker lead.
WSU opened it up with four more runs in the eighth. Tyler Baker hit his first career home run and
then Lambert was hit by a pitch with the bases loaded to bring in another
run. Coy's fifth hit of the game, a
double to right centerfield scored the third run and the last run of the inning
scored on a passed ball to put WSU in front 12-2.
Harbutz's sac fly in the ninth finished the scoring for WSU.
The Shockers are next in action on Thurs., May 17 at
Creighton at 7 p.m. The game will be
televised on Kansas 22.
