Box Score WICHITA, Kan. - Wichita State scored three runs in the ninth
to come back and defeat Bradley 7-6 in the final game of a three-game series.
Josh Halbert drove in the first run in the ninth and then
Erik Harbutz doubled to drive in the tying run and the winning run scored on a
Bradley error.
Halbert went 2-for-2 with two RBI in the game, while Aaron
Rea also drove in two runs. Reliever
Cale Elam picked up his sixth win of the season. He pitched two innings and gave up two runs
on three hits.
The Braves took an early 2-0 lead in the fourth inning. With two outs, BU used three-straight hits to
go in front 2-0.
Johnny Coy hit his eighth home run of the season in the
bottom of the fourth to cut the lead to 2-1.
The Shockers took the lead in exciting fashion in the fifth inning. Don Lambert led off with a double and after
Kevin Hall reached on an error, Tyler Baker sacrificed them both into scoring
position. Aaron Rea then used a perfect
bunt on a suicide squeeze to score Lambert and Hall also scored as he never
stopped running on the play to give WSU a 3-2 lead.
BU tied it back up in the sixth with a run and took the lead
in the seventh with another run. The
Shockers used an RBI single from Halbert in the seventh to tie the game, but
the Braves scored single runs in the eighth and ninth to go in front 6-4.
Lambert and Hall led off the ninth with walks and with one
out, Halbert singled in Lambert and Harbutz's double and the Brave error led to
the 7-6 Shocker win.
WSU is next in action on Tue., May 15 at 6:35 p.m. in
Lincoln, Neb. Against Nebraska.
