Box Score NORMAL, Ill. - Wichita State used two runs in the 10th
inning to defeat Illinois State 8-6 and take the Missouri Valley Conference
series.
Casey Gillaspie went 4-for-5 with an RBI to lead WSU. Cale Elam earned the win. He pitched two shutout innings with three
strikeouts.
The Redbirds jumped on the Shockers in the first. ISU used five hits off of Shocker starter
A.J. Ladwig to take a 3-0 lead.
Johnny Coy led off the second with his sixth home run of the
season to cut the lead to 3-1. Josh
Halbert led off the third with a walk and after an infield single by Taylor
Doggett, Kevin Hall sacrificed both runners into scoring position. Don Lambert drove in Halbert with a groundout
to second to pull WSU within 3-2.
ISU scored another run in the third to take a 4-2 lead, but
the Shockers responded with three runs in the fifth to take a 5-4 lead. Doggett, Hall and Lambert all singled to start
the inning to score one run and a Coy sac fly and a Gillaspie single gave WSU
the lead.
WSU tacked on another run in the sixth. Tyler Baker led off with a double and scored
on a single by Doggett to make the score 6-4.
Eric Aguilera homered to lead off the sixth to cut the lead
to 6-5 and Bryan Huff's single in the eighth tied the score at six.
Gillaspie led off the 10th with a single and Erik
Harbutz bunted pinch runner Micah Green to second. Dayne Parker then doubled down the left field
line to drive in Green and Parker moved to third on a flyout. Parker scored on a Redbird error to give the
Shocks an 8-6 lead.
The Shockers are next in action on Tue., April 10 against
Kansas in Lawrence at 6 p.m.
