Shocks Score Two in the 16th to Win 6-4

LAWRENCE, Kan. -  Wichita State scored two runs in the top of the 16th inning to defeat Kansas 6-4.  The 16-inning game is tied for the second-longest game in Shocker history.

Lawrence native Aaron Rea delivered the game winning hit in the 16th, while Lawrence native Albert Minnis threw four shutout innings to earn the win.

The Shockers got on the board in the second inning.  Erik Harbutz walked with two outs and Dayne Parker hit his first career home run to give WSU a 2-0 lead.

Tucker Tharp led off the third with a double and moved to third on a wild pitch.  Kevin Kuntz singled in Tharp to cut the Shocker lead to 2-1.

Ka'iana Eldredge doubled to lead off the fifth and scored on a single by Tharp to chase starter Kris GardnerFoster Vielock came in and retired the side to leave the score at 2-2.

Taylor Doggett singled with one out in the sixth and after stealing second base, he scored on a single by Don Lambert to put WSU in front 3-2.

KU tied it at three in the bottom of the sixth using two walks, an error and a sacrifice fly.

The Jayhawks took the lead 4-3 with a run in the eighth, but with two outs in the ninth, Casey Gillaspie doubled to drive in Kevin Hall and tie the game at four.

Tyler Baker led off the 16th inning with a double to left field and scored on a double to right-center from Aaron Rea.  Rea scored from third with two outs on a KU error to give WSU a 6-4 lead.

The Shockers and Jayhawks play in Wichita on Wed., April 11 at 6:30 p.m.
