Box Score WICHITA, Kan.- The Shocker baseball team won the first game
of a three game series, 3-2, against Tulane on Friday at Eck Stadium.
Senior Mitch Mormann pitched five innings, allowing two runs
on three hits and striking out three to get the win. Mormann is now 2-2 on the
season.
Freshman Casey Gillaspie went 1-for-1, with two RBI and
three walks.
Tulane got on the board in the first inning on a double by
Nick Schneeberger to score Brandon Boudreaux and put the Wave up 1-0.
Casey Gillaspie did not let the Wave have the lead for long
when, after a Johnny Coy walk, he homered for the first time in his career over
the center field wall to put the Shockers up 2-1. The homer was also
Gillaspie's first extra base hit of his career.
The Shockers would add one more in the bottom of the third
on a Coy sacrifice fly that scored Kevin Hall. The RBI by Coy would prove to be
the winning run for the Shockers.
Jeremy Schaffer homered in the sixth to pull Tulane within one at 3-2.
Cale Elam got out of a bases loaded, one-out jam in the
ninth inning to get the save for the Shocks.
Wichita State is back in action on Saturday, taking on
Tulane at Eck Stadium. The first pitch is set for 2 p.m.
