Box Score WICHITA, Kan.- The Wichita State baseball team came back
from four down to take the first game of a two-game set against UT-Arlington on
Tuesday night at Eck Stadium. The win makes the Shockers 7-6 on the season.
Josh Smith pitched 5.1 innings, allowing three runs on five
hits and striking out four in a no-decision effort. Sophomore Aaron LaBrie got
the win for the Shockers, moving his record to 1-1 on the season.
Erik Harbutz went 3-for-5 with two RBI. Johnny Coy
went 1-for-5, knocking in the winning run for the Shocks.
UT-Arlington got on the board first in the third inning on a
single by Michael Guerra that scored Philip Incaviglia.
The Mavericks added three more in the top of the sixth to
put them up 4-0.
The Shockers would get two back in the bottom of the sixth.
Casey Gillaspie and Ryan Hege each walked, advanced on a wild pitch, then
scored on back-to-back singles by Dayne Parker and Tyler Coughenour, to cut the
lead to 4-2.
It would be back-to-back singles that did it again for the
Shockers in the bottom of the eighth. A single by Erik Harbutz scored Tyler
Coughenour and Taylor Doggett. In the next at-bat, Johnny Coy would give
the Shockers the lead for good when he singled to send Harbutz to home plate.
The Shockers will face the Mavericks again on Wednesday
afternoon at Eck Stadium. First pitch is set for 3 p.m.
