Box Score WICHITA, Kan.- The Shocker baseball team fell to Southern
Illinois in game two of a three-game set, 10-3, on Saturday afternoon at Eck
Stadium.
Mitch Mormann pitched 4.2 innings for Wichita State,
allowing three runs on five hits, and striking out four in a no decision
effort.
Erik Harbutz went 1-for-3 with a double.
The Shockers took an early lead in the first when Don
Lambert hit a two-out single, stole second, and then scored when Johnny Coy reached
on a throwing error by Donny Duschinsky.
Bob Arens added to the Shocker lead in the next inning when
he hit a single that scored Erik Harbutz and put Wichita State up, 2-0.
In the third inning, Kevin Hall singled to lead off inning,
then scored three batters later when Johnny Coy grounded out to third base to
put the Shockers up, 3-0.
The Salukis tied the game in the fifth. Jordan Sivertson
led-off the inning with a solo homerun, then, later in the inning, Jake Welch
tripled to score Brock Harding and Nick Johnson and tie the score at three.
A five-run sixth would put Southern Illinois in the lead,
8-3. Brock Harding started the scoring when he singled to right-center to score
Jordan Sivertson and Austin Montgomery. Three batters later, Rennie Troggio
tripled to plate Harding and Nick Johnson. The final run of the inning came in
the next at-bat when Jake Welch doubled down the left-field line to score
Troggio.
The Salukis added one more in the seventh and ninth to go
up, 10-3.
The Shockers are back in action for the final game of the
series against Southern Illinois on Sunday at Eck Stadium. First pitch is set
for 1:00 p.m.
