Box Score WICHITA, Kan.- The Shocker baseball team fell to South
Alabama, 7-3, Tuesday night at Eck Stadium.
Kris Gardner got his first loss of the season for the
Shockers, pitching six innings, allowing three runs on six hits, while striking
out four.
Johnny Coy went 1-for-3 at the plate with an RBI and a walk.
South Alabama would get on the board in the first inning
when Jordan Patterson hit a two-out solo homerun to right field that put his
team up, 1-0.
The Shockers took a 2-1 lead in their half of the first.
Garrett Bayliff and Kevin Hall led off the inning with back-to-back singles,
advanced on a passed ball, and then scored on groundouts by Don Lambert and
Johnny Coy.
South Alabama tied the game in the fourth on a double by
Whitt Dorsey that scored Patterson.
The Jaguars scored two more runs in the seventh when Dustin
Dalken doubled to score Dorsey, then, in the next at-bat, Brad Hook hit a
sacrifice fly to left field that scored Nick Zaharlon and put South Alabama up,
4-2.
Each team scored a run in the eighth to put the score at
5-3.
In the ninth, the Jaguars added two unearned runs to further their lead and put the
game away.
The Shockers are back in action Wednesday night for the
second game against the Jaguars at Eck Stadium. First pitch is set for 6:30
p.m.
