Box Score WICHITA, Kan.- The Wichita State Shocker baseball team fell
in the first game of a four-game set against the No. 24 Purdue Boilermakers, 8-3, on
Thursday night at Eck Stadium.
Mitch Mormann pitched five innings for the Shockers. He
allowed two runs on seven hits in a no decision effort. Foster Vielock took the
loss for the Shocks.
Don Lambert went 2-for-4 with a homerun and two RBI.
The Shockers got on the board first in the second inning
when Don Lambert hit a solo homerun over the left field wall to put Wichita
State up, 1-0. It was Lambert's second homer of the season.
Purdue would answer in the top of the fourth. Kevin Plawecki
scored on an Andrew Dixon sacrifice bunt, then, in the next at-bat, David
Miller hit a double to right field to score Angelo Cianfrocco and put the
Boilermakers up, 2-1.
The lead would not last for long. In their half of the
fourth, the Shockers would tie the game at two when Lambert singled to score
Johnny Coy.
The Shockers took the lead in the next inning on a Garrett
Bayliff single that scored Tyler Coughenour, to put them up 3-2.
Purdue tied the game again in the next inning when David
Miller scored on a Tyler Spillner single.
A five-run seventh for the Boilermakers would put them up,
8-3, and put the game away.
The Shockers will play the second game of the series against Purdue on
Friday night at 5 p.m. at Eck Stadium.
