Box Score 2 WICHITA, Kan. — Wichita State defeated North Dakota, 26-0,
and, 13-1, in a baseball doubleheader Saturday at Eck Stadium.
The Shockers improved to 4-3 on the season with Saturday's
victories, and to 68-0 all-time at home during the month of February.
Wichita State won the first game, 26-0, in seven innings.
Sophomore Erik Harbutz, junior Johnny Coy and junior Ryan
Hege led the Shockers with three hits apiece.
Harbutz scored four runs and added four RBI as the Shockers racked up 20
hits in the first game.
Senior pitcher Mitch Mormann (1-1) got the win on the mound
for the Shockers, allowing two hits in six innings and striking out four.
The Shockers led off the Saturday afternoon game with an
eight-run first inning. Kevin Hall and Harbutz scored the first, and ultimately
winning, runs for the Shockers on a Coy single to left field.
Wichita State built a 15-0 lead through two innings, and
went on to add runs in the fourth, fifth and sixth innings.
In the second game, Wichita State jumped out to a 10-0 lead
through three innings.
Sophomore Garrett Bayliff scored on a Coy double to right
field in the first inning. Don Lambert's single to the shortstop scored Coy
later in the inning for a 2-0 edge.
The Shockers added three runs in the second, five runs in
the third and three runs in the seventh inning. North Dakota's (0-3) lone run
of the day came in the fifth inning.
Shocker sophomore pitcher Albert Minnis (1-0) recorded the
win, striking out eight in five innings.
Bayliff and Coy picked up four hits and 3 RBI each to lead
the Shockers, who totaled 20 hits in the second game as well. Bayliff also
scored four runs.
Saturday's wins gave Wichita State a 3-0 lead in the home
series, which concludes at 1 p.m. Sunday against North Dakota at Eck Stadium.
